It Was A Lovely Break !

two of our grandchildren

These days you so often hear people asking the question "where do the weeks go to?" and indeed I often wonder that myself. The world seems to be moving ever faster, our days are busy ... they must be they go so quickly! It just doesn't seem possible that just a few weeks ago we enjoyed our short break seeing friends, family and fantastic places. We were able to spend time with two of our grand-children pictured above. The sun was certainly shining that day and not only were they looking good ... our son's dahlia's were looking good too!

Steam Engine 'Victor'

We were fortunate to visit, Newby Bridge - Lakeside at Lake Windermere. Lakeside Pier is one end of the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway in which you can travel by steam train 3.5 miles via Newby Bridge to Haverthwaite, along the old Furness line that used to go to Ulverston and Barrow. There is also the Aquarum of the Lakes, where you can discover the fascinating and often secret world of wildlife and freshwater creatures dwelling in and alongside these magnificent waters.

MV Tern - Such a peaceful ride across

On a previous visit we enjoyed a trip on MV Swan, but this visit it was sister steamer MV Tern, that came into view. The Tern has two levels and at full capacity can hold 350 passengers, although it wasn't full the day of our visit. The M.V Tern was built by Forrest & Son, Wyvenhoe, Essex in 1891, as a steam powered yacht, and was converted to diesel power in 1956. The Tern is 145ft in length and weighs 121 tonnes ... manned by a friendly crew of four, it can reach a speed of 10 knots, which I believe is just over 11 miles per hour. A nice leisurely pace.

The Catch The Wind Kite festival was held at Morecambe Bay this weekend.
Pictured is a general picture of huge crowds on the Promenade watching as the Kites fly in the air

Morecambe Bay Kite Festival

We also visited Morecambe Bay and enjoyed a lovely walk along the Promenade met some friendly volunteers in the RNLI gift shop ... where I did buy some Christmas Cards! That weekend it was also the kite festival, a very colourful affair, this free festival is a highlight for the resort and has been taking place for ten years now.

All in all a great trip ...

All the best Jan

Ivy ... your brownies look good too, and I also like the sound of recipes with the leeks you recently mentioned.

We've had rain today but it's beginning to clear so a nice walk will be on the agenda quite soon.

Take Care

All the best Jan
