Phoenix the Screaming Lord Sutch of Diabetic Advice

This should be posted as supporting comment on Eddie’s post below. However, it contains a table which I don’t know if the comment section will accept. It’s an old post but illustrates the spurious nonsense spouted by Phoenix and her ilk.

The table below compares the vitamin, mineral content and other important dietary elements for broccoli and potato It can be seen that broccoli in 13 out of 18 of the important dietary elements has a greater or equal amount of the element. In those instances where potato has a greater or equal amount of the dietary element (vitamin B1, vitamin B6, potassium and selenium) the deficit in dietary element is easily made up with side-dishes made up of combinations of one or more of celery, courgette, radish, cauliflower, or mushroom.

Broccoli contains almost 5 times as much vitamin C as potato
Broccoli contains 8 times as much calcium as potato
Broccoli contains almost 2.5 as much dietary fibre as potato

Indeed it is "spurious nonsense spouted by Phoenix",
Broccoli is a winner, and many other of the lower carb non starchy vegetables.
John's tip to look out for recipe idea's is a good one,

For almost six years our team have ate the sort of foods that we feature on this blog, our food blog, and website. No increase in medication, no diabetic complications. Let Phoenix stick to her 60% carb diet and high medication regime.

I am staying well clear.

For a type 1 diabetic there is no choice insulin is part of the daily regime. I watched my grandfather take so many tablets a day and thought I don't want this as I grow older. There are times we all reach for the tablets but I am convinced that good wholesome food can be a much larger part of healthy living then many people realise. Doesn't it make sense to eat good food which may well decrease need for medication. My nephew suffers badly from migraines, they can be debilitating, it has taken a while but he now knows the trigger foods to avoid. Trigger foods for diabetics are carbohydrates, sugar, to much processed foods, it makes sense to avoid them or at least cut down on eating this food group.

A more sinister thing about phoenix is by hiding her profile though the regular members will know she denies newbies the opportunity of knowing her diabetes type.

In short she's a nasty piece of work who's a danger to the well being of the newly diagnosed and naive newbies who are taken in by her misleading hype.
