Featured food of the day Scallops

Another great food idea and photograph from the mega Simply Recipe site here.

Mudeford Quay Dorset

King scallops

I usually keep to food ideas that everyone can afford, let's face it we could all low carb eating fillet steak, lobsters and caviar etc. Every now and again we push the boat out, and scoff King Scallops we get from a great fresh fish shop at Mudeford Quay in Dorset. King scallops are very expensive, but if I could afford it I would live on them. We used to live a few miles away on the South Coast and spent many happy hours on the Quay. The kids used to like catching little crabs with bits of bacon on the end of a little hand held line set up, all put back in the sea alive at the end of the session.

The way I cook 'em, the scallops, not the kids, is in a hot frying pan with a little butter. When they are just starting to lightly brown, get 'em out quick, over cook them and they are ruined. Serve on a bed of double creamed wilted spinach. Low carb tough, not for me and Jan. Just don't ask me to do the washing up, groan !

Oh that the South Coast had better weather at the moment. In fact the whole world's weather is upside down.

However, we have many happy memories of Mudeford. That might even be me in the pink coat LOL

Further along the coast at Rye in East Sussex starting tomorrow it's scallops week. If you're in the area and the weather permits do pop along, this week gives you the perfect excuse and opportunity to indulge in seafood delights.

Take Care - Keep Warm and Dry !

All the best Jan

Definitely do not want to overcook the scallops. May I recommend a glass of Chardonnay Sir?

:-) we love our scallops, too! the big ones I like best wrapped in half-cooked bacon and then finished on the grill. have you ever tried the little "bay" kind, done by the Atkins recipe with cream and sherry? mmmm....

With respect no you may not !

Champagne or at the very least a quality Chablis. Please get a grip anon. Us low carbers know a thing about good booze. Just ask any anti.

Those scallops in the picture, and Tess's recipe, seventh heaven I think it's called.

I would never have the nerve to cook expensive scallops as I'm sure I would overcook them, but those sure do look good. :)

Jan, I saw your comment on Karen's blog today about your dinner ... salmon and fresh veggies. YUMMO! That's my kind of dinner as I love fish as well.

Have a wonderful Valentine's Day. ♡

Hi Karen - nice to see you here and thank you for your kind comment; I agree salmon and fresh veggies ... just great food.

Hello Caron - I agree those scallops look so inviting ... I could just pick one up from the picture ...well almost.

Hi Kay - I agree with you the scallops and Tess's recipe - seventh heaven indeed.

Hello Tess - scallops are expensive, we don't have them that often but so enjoy them when we do. Haven't tried the little 'bay' kind with the Atkins recipe you talk of here, sounds great, thanks.

Hi Anon - many thanks for commenting. A glass of Chardonnay nicely chilled is always acceptable to me ... thanks.

Do hope everyone's Valentines Day and Evening is going well.

All the best Jan

Always read - don't always comment but the scallops look very tasty but they are expensive, perhaps a special treat for Valentines Day, I'll start saving for next year.
