United Kingdom 13 - New Zealand 1

No this isn’t the score following a rugby match …it is in fact the top thirteen countries as having the highest quality of life. United Kingdom got 13th place and the number one spot went to New Zealand …I know for sure Lynda at ‘Living the Life’ blog would agree 100% …as she lives in Auckland.

Apparently Britain (UK) has been identified as having one of the highest qualities of life in the world. A new study from The Social Progress Imperative has put the country 13th in the world - ahead of the US, France, Ireland and Spain. However, it was outclassed by a number of countries, including New Zealand, the Netherlands (the best-performing country in the EU), Canada (the best in the G8) and Germany (which took 12th place): and our Achilles Heel is that we're just too fat.

We obviously still need to do more to further the word, that by following a low carb high fat lifestyle it is possible to reduce weight, to see an improvement to blood sugar numbers ….plus a whole host of other benefits. You only have to look at the many success stories, the good health and lifestyle stories there are when living the LCHF lifestyle….and it is a lifestyle not a diet.

Anyway back to ‘The SPI’ report the countries that fared the best are:

1) New Zealand
2) Switzerland
3) Iceland
4) The Netherlands
5) Norway
6) Sweden
7) Canada
8) Finland
9) Denmark
10) Australia
11) Austria
12) Germany
13) The UK

I hope the original article, should you wish to read more, is still available, link here.

Crikey! Is that all you've got?
Must have taken all of 2 seconds to come up with that little gem that adds nothing useful to man or beast-Cheap shot or what!*Sigh*

For the record-I know many people who have visited or lived in NZ who report it is a beautiful part of the world to visit or reside.

Depends what you mean by "quality of life".

I value living in a free-thinking, cosmopolitan, liberal society. For that reason:
1,2,10,11 and 12 are off my list.

We have to look closely at what we all think quality of life means. These reports have their own methods which are not always how you or I may look at things. I for one enjoy my life in the UK.

Perhaps life is what we make it. What we are willing to put into it. Does life or our country owe us anything?

Oh dear... we don't mind those who come here then return to UK. We like the ones who come here and love it and stay. They never forget where they come from and think fondly of their old home but make New Zealand their new home and we embrace them. Many of my good friends are British now living in NZ and they love it here. Each to their own.

@ Stephen Ferguson - You seriously think New Zealand is not free-thinking, cosmopolitan and liberal society? We are all of those things and more!!

The plural of "anecdote" is not "data".

The plural of anecdote is anecdata.

I can't imagine living anywhere but Australia - but if I did, that place would be NZ. Absolutely breathtaking scenery and great people.

Jan's post was not a rant at my countries better than yours wind up, just a bit of trivia. Jan as people must know has not got a mean bone in her body and never gets involved in the grief and bun fights.

If I has a choice of place to live it would be on a Scottish Island, as far way from most of human race as possible. No phone no television no internet.

Fishing the sea, enough chickens for our eggs and a small shop supplying the rest of the food and wine required.

Just give me Jan, our music and our books.

I could compare Canada and US - I like Canada a lot, I wish we wouldn't part with it, but in US it is easier for people to find jobs not only because there are more people , but because capitalism in US is more ruthless and economy is more vibrant because of it.

Is not the US and UK experiencing job shortages and people not having enough to buy healthy food?

Hi James

100% correct. I could spend what time I have left talking about the reasons the US and UK are going down the tubes rapidly. Two once great nations on the way out. Riddled with corruption and greed.

I believe the push to eat a lot of variety of fresh produce in order to be healthy is unreasonable, especially for the population with low income. For the compassion reason I would discourage low-income people from snacking - it is the real money drain. If you calculate how much the one pound of chips or cereal bars cost, you would think "I would rather buy meat"

I have travelled to some countries mentioned here-in. In my time to Canada and also New Zealand. I found them interesting countries, its peoples were friendly.

Globally the world and governments are struggling with corruption and greed. The deep depths of the human soul is indeed worrying.

In communities there is good and bad. It could be advantageous to start with local communities and grow and extend the goodness that is within. Does good grow better than evil. My ubringing and teaching has been to the affirmative good is better.

I am proud to live in the UK for yes, it has faults. But is there another country anywhere that extends open arms to all. But there-in is another troubling issue, at least to some.

So, I'm just keeping this simple...
