In response to Anonymous and the diary of a madman/woman we offer the following.

1. We only complain about the NHS diabetes strategy. If you regard the lower life expectancies quoted as indicating a successful NHS strategy then we beg to differ. It is of course your prerogative to regard the strategy as a roaring success. The reference for the quotes for life expectancies was originally published in link one. And subsequently in link two.

2. Ka-mon was quoted exactly.

3. There is no attempt to average 10 and 20. Possibly you are trying to say that the post quotes an average life expectancy for all diabetics. I’m afraid this would have to be what is known as a ‘weighted average’ of the Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics and was not attempted or even implied.

4. I have 3 mathematical degrees - a Bsc, Msc and a PhD, published over 200 articles in the top mathematical journals, taught and supervised numerous PhD students in some of the world’s top 100 universities.

Have a long and fruitful retirement.

John

PS The diabetes.co.uk site seems to be running very smoothly now.
