“The tissue of cruciferous vegetables, like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and Brussels sprouts, contain high levels of the active plant chemicals glucosinolates. These are metabolized by the body into isothiocyanates, which are known to be antioxidants and powerful anti-carcinogens. The main isothiocyanate from broccoli is sulphoraphane.
Researchers from the National Nutrition and Food Technology Research Institute at the Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran, recruited 81 diabetics to participate in their double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial.
Results showed that both broccoli groups experienced significant decreases in MDA, a well-established marker of oxidative stress, as well as reductions in levels of oxidized LDL cholesterol, another oxidative stress marker.”

Thought I'd give that other article a wide berth-geez
Not only for diabetics. I can remember these vegetables being part of my Grans diet. A question she always asked of the family was "are you eating your greens?" To be honest we just used to humour her as another favorite question was "are you eating enough roughage? Now being that bit older and possibly wiser (although some in the family may not agree to that comment)I definitely think Gran knew best. She was 99yrs. when she died. A grand old lady and she didn't have diabetes, unlike other younger members of the family who now read this blog. I would urge people to eat a healthy and wholesome diet especially as wide a variety of vegetables as possible. Look at the recipes here and take in the information and advice that is available. Thank you for reading my comment.

Brocolli is good for everyone and as a family we enjoy eating it. Wife often cooks it with grated cheese over the top. Alas I never have been a lover of sprouts but keep up my green intake with spring greens , leeks etc.
