DCUK The Great Escape/banned again !

After surviving a year at DCUK under the name of fatbird, I signed my own exit Visa and checked out last night, by signing off a post under my own name. One of my old nemesis the cherub was the first to spot my name. How ironic one of Ken's old clique, and a member of the present clan, should be the first to scream rape, no change there then eh. It was fun while it lasted, but proved beyond all doubt, serious debate is impossible on the forum. Threads about low carb posted in the low carb forum, are decimated by non low carbers time and time again. Even a thread I started last night about butter, had the forums Forrest Gump arguing butter contains sugar. Further effort to promote the low carb cause was futile, at least as far as I was concerned. Every time a low carber posts, they have to spend hours dealing with the clan or complete knumbskulls. Being the eternal optimist I thought I could add some positive input. Any sane person must be thinking why did you bother. Well the truth is, I would not have rejoined, but for the fact the forum is the largest forum in the UK. I could have gone quietly, but I would have gone back and posted when I saw the next bout of lunacy from the antis. As I have said attempting some sort of progress is futile. It has helped many from the start to the present day, but it could have been so much more.

The forum could have influenced people in high places, people that could have made a difference. But as Mongoose said last night "No wonder duk won't listen if the behaviour on this forum is what they see as an example" Nothing has changed in the last five years. Instead of fighting each other, the members could have been fighting for test strips for all, fighting for the have nots. Fighting for a better deal for all diabetics. But year in and year out those that have it all, insulin, many on pumps, ample tests trips and access to endocrinologists, and other experts had to wreck serious discussions and meaningful debate. Don’t get me wrong, I am not jealous or envious of the haves, compared to many I am one of the haves. I have friends who are Doctors and top notch dietitians. But I am very aware others do not have that luxury. My Father and Grandmother did not have the  facilities I have, and both died from type two diabetic complications.

So, let’s hope I am proved wrong. Let's hope we will see robust and informed debate on the low carb section, without non low carbers wrecking meaningful discussion. It has not happened for years, but time will tell. While the members on the forum play the them and us games, real progress will not be made. Many individuals will be helped and that is great, but as we have seen, less than 1% of the members post on a regular basis, and almost all who join, swiftly go on their way.

No doubt I will be Beelzebub over on the forum for a few hours, and then swiftly forgotten, but think on this. I had not posted on the forum for a couple of years or more, but the place was just the same without my presence. Over the years around ten people have dominated the forum, playing the games we have seen so much of over the last few weeks, the games will continue, most new members won’t stick around. Remember diabeticacademic ? a knowledgeable and very bright person, his or her thread was wrecked by the wreckers and he or she walked, probably never to return. Over the years thousands of good members have walked including Doctors. Mostly because of the clans tactics, will it ever be thus ?

Members were on to you from your first post.
If you are going to be a successful sock puppet in the future then tone it down a bit and don't use topics from your blog. Involve yourself in topics other than low carbing. You did very little to help any new members.
The Mods need lessons in how to spot a sock puppet don't you think?
I am a low carber and think you should have written an apology to Ian as he seemed to be foaming at the mouth when it all blew up.
Any snapshots to show for it?
We need to see it as it has all been erased.

I won my bet that you would be exposed and I agree with reducing carbohydrates. It took longer than anticipated but the Mods were not on the ball as usual.
Might buy some grass fed beef with the proceeds.

The sooner the better. God knows how many new people she's sucked in. Looks like most of the "old ones" have sussed her by the absence of any posts from them on the infected thread. Why DCUK allow her to continue is beyond belief. We banned her from day one on ETYM.

Well, I'm fairly new to the DCUK forum and found/find it very informative. I don't know anything about what went on in the past so I'll take it as I find it and I actually quite enjoyed participating in your threads. OK, they got heated but there was also lively discussion and debate. I've always said I'm not a fan of simply posting links to studies/scientific papers but, apart from those, it was entertaining.
Hope you have got another alias sorted soon !

Thanks for coming over here especially using a known forum name.

The past is the past in many ways but so much destruction and banning has gone on ever the years. The last few weeks has been typical. I note your comment re links to papers but what else have we got.

It does not matter how well you and others are doing many right of the truth by saying it's only anecdotal. It's not antotal to me I believe most ordinary people.

But some of the people over there are out and out liars and we have proved it on many occasions.

You should have seen the forum 4 or 5 years ago, great fun with some real good people. They got fed up with bullshit and grief and walked. As will many of the good guys and gals posting now.

Anyway good luck to you and yours, and thanks again. Come back anytime, whether to agree or give me a kicking. If a comment is legal it goes on, good or bad.

Hi Mo,

Along with a few other we first joined DCUK in 2008 and that's were we first became aware of LowCarb diet which has proved for us to be the most effective way to control T2. Then as still is the case today phoenix et al were at the forefront warning of the dangers of LowCarb and that we should adhere to a similar diet to
her e.g high carb low fat.

If her predictions of the dire consequences of LowCarb was to be believed we should be pushing up daisies by now, but and much to her chagrin we are still going strong and in the spring along with many others we will be celebrating six years of LowCarb still on no or minimal medications and no diabetic complications.

Spring of this year will see us reach the milestone of a million page views which will coincide with our sixth anniversary of diagnosis. Feel free to join the celebrations and enjoy a virtual complimentary glass finest of champagne.

Respect for using a recognisable forum name.

Regards
Graham

Thanks Graham, I've always advocated "live and let live". Glad to read you're achieving great results with your chosen diet/lifestyle.
