“Take a Walk on the Wild Side”

In the present extremely windy and rainy weather, here in the UK,  the post title has nothing to do with Lou Reeds Song, “Walk on the Wild Side” which is a song about transvestites who come to New York City and become prostitutes. "Take a walk on the wild side" is what they say to potential customers. Each verse introduces a new character. There is Holly, Candy, Little Joe, Sugar Plum Fairy, and Jackie. The characters are all cronies of the infamous Andy Warhol Factory, as was Lou. (details and images, except Marks, found courtesy of Google)

No my title is more about general walking and it’s health benefits, as the link below to Mark Sisson’s article, at Mark’s Daily Apple will show.

Walking is good for us and I love the first three reasons he shows:

1) It’s all inclusive. Absent debilitating injury or infirmity, everyone can walk. No excuses (unless you have one).

2) As Mark says, the necessary appendages are right down there. See those bizarre appendages underneath you? That’s what you walk with. See that horizontal surface stretching into the horizon? That’s what you walk on.

3) It’s the foundation for good health and makes life better.

Please read the article, link below,  to see all of Mark’s words, and how he sees all the ways walking can enhance our lives.

Meanwhile back here in the UK, whilst I would encourage us all to get out and have a walk, please take care if you are in areas where flooding and high winds are prevalent. Safety must always come first. However, the bad weather must improve soon ….. so get your walking shoes ready, it makes good sense.

When the weather permits, whatever country you live in, I hope you enjoy your walk.

All the best Jan

Thanks, Jan. I thought your lovely bridge picture was near Stockers Lake, and I wasn't far wrong (thanks Google). A picture like that just makes me want to explore where that path is leading.
Connecting with nature is a must for everyone, even if it's restricted for the home-bound to watching birds on the bird feeder.
Balance is the key to most things. Life poses so many demands on us. Nature only asks that we get our clothing right : )

Off to Windsor tomorrow, where I hope not to connect with a river Thames in full spate !
